SPC Ceramics professor Kim Kirchman will travel to Korea Sept. 24-Oct. 2, giving her students a virtual experience through her Korean Blog.
The trip, with its interactive component, is another example of SPC’s commitment to global experiences for its students.
Mindy Solomon, founder and director of the Mindy Solomon Gallery arranged the 10-day trip that will include attendance at the 2013, 7th Gyeonggi International Ceramics Biennale and visits to major universities where Kirchman hopes to make connections that could lead to international faculty or student exchanges with SPC in the future.
Connection for SPC fine arts students
In the classroom, Kirchman’s students are working on projects that incorporate the art and history of Korean pottery. She is excited about the exposure to international art production that she can bring back and share with her students and colleagues. SPC Printmaking professor Marjorie Greene’s students are also making the Korean connection, working on printmaking designs based on Korean poetry and imagery.
As a follow-up to the Korea trip, SPC will host an exhibition later this fall in the Crossroads Gallery that will include the ceramics and printmaking work of SPC students.
