As part of St. Petersburg College’s ongoing efforts to develop strong ties with the area’s manufacturers, the Florida TRADE Consortium sponsored Manufacturing Day on the Clearwater Campus Oct. 3.
The Florida TRADE Consortium is a group of 12 state and community colleges from throughout Florida. SPC is the lead college in the consortium, which was awarded a $15-million-dollar Department of Labor grant in 2012 to develop and deliver accelerated technical training programs that would lead to entry-level jobs in manufacturing.
The Manufacturing Day activities in the Clearwater quad included free lunch for 300 students and representatives from several Tampa Bay area manufacturers.
“We were pleased with the response to this inaugural event, and hope to make it much bigger and better next year,” said Gary Graham, director of the Florida TRADE consortium. “Our goal was to expose students to our advanced manufacturing programs and to the companies in our area who are potential employers.”
