Students had a variety of opportunities to experience the political process, not only by observing but by taking part. They participated in a mock session in the House of Representatives and a tour of the Senate. After enjoying lunch with the college’s president and many Tampa Bay legislators on the House portico, the group held a question and answer session with the officials. Students sat in on a Senate Education Appropriations Committee and listened to how money was being allocated to the state’s education system. They also had the opportunity to learn about the history of Florida’s government with visits to the Old Capitol and the Museum of Florida History.
The SPC student delegation represented the diversity of the college’s student population. All SPC campuses were represented. Some of the students attend online classes. Others are part of the Honors College while still others are international students at SPC.
